A Peaceful Seaside Place to Relax
Tsuinoura also has a small beach where visitors can enjoy the sea in a much quieter atmosphere than at some of Shirahama’s more famous beaches.
Fishing is another popular activity in the area, and it is not unusual to see people quietly enjoying their time by the water. The sound of the waves and the peaceful surroundings make Tsuinoura a pleasant place to slow down and take a break from sightseeing.
A small parking area is available near the coast and can accommodate several vehicles. However, some of the surrounding roads are relatively narrow, so visitors arriving by car should drive slowly and carefully.
Karasu Rock: A Beautiful Sunset View
Near Tsuinoura is another unusual coastal formation known as Karasu Rock. Its shape resembles a bird, which gives the rock its name, as “Karasu” means “crow” in Japanese.
A particularly beautiful scene can be seen around the spring and autumn equinoxes. At sunset, the position of the sun can create an illusion in which the setting sun appears to be touched or “pecked” by the bird-shaped rock.
This unusual combination of rock, ocean, and sunset creates a memorable natural landscape and makes the area a popular photography spot. Around sunset, photography enthusiasts often visit to capture the changing colors of the sky and sea.
The scenery is especially appealing because it is created entirely by the relationship between the natural rock formation, the ocean, and the setting sun.
How to Get to Tsuinoura
Tsuinoura is approximately 15 minutes by car from Shirahama Station on the JR Kisei Main Line. By car, it takes about 5 minutes from Nanki-Shirahama Interchange on the Kisei Expressway.
If you are traveling by bus, the nearest stop is Tonda, from which the coast is approximately a 10-minute walk.
Discover a Quiet Side of Shirahama
Tsuinoura offers a peaceful experience that is quite different from Shirahama’s more famous tourist attractions. Its “Rocks of Mutual Love,” quiet beach, fishing scenery, and beautiful sunsets make it an appealing destination for travelers looking for a relaxing coastal experience.
A visit around sunset is particularly recommended, especially during the spring or autumn equinoxes when Karasu Rock can create its most distinctive visual effect.
If you have time during your Shirahama trip, consider stopping at Tsuinoura to enjoy the sound of the waves, take photographs, and experience one of the area’s quieter and more romantic coastal landscapes.
