Because the source water is very hot, fresh water is added to bring it to a comfortable bathing temperature. The resulting water has a slightly cloudy appearance and a soft, pleasant feel.
The salt content of this type of hot spring helps the body retain warmth, and bathers often find that they stay warm for a long time after leaving the bath. Because swimsuits are required, men and women can enjoy the bath together. The spacious pool can accommodate approximately 100 people, making it particularly suitable for families and groups traveling together.
During the summer beach season, visitors can easily stop by after swimming without changing out of their swimsuits. Warming up in the hot spring while feeling the sea breeze and looking out over the beach creates a wonderfully relaxed seaside experience.
The spring water used at Shirasuna comes from the same Mabuyu source used by the famous Muro-no-Yu hot spring. It is a strongly saline sodium chloride spring containing sulfur, known for its warming properties.
During winter, the water temperature is adjusted slightly higher and the facility is opened free of charge as a foot bath. The opportunity to warm your feet while looking out over the winter sea makes it an enjoyable stop even during the colder months.
Beautiful Shirarahama Beach
Stretching approximately 620 meters in front of Shirarayu and Shirasuna, Shirarahama Beach is one of the most famous attractions in Nanki-Shirahama. Its brilliant white sand is also the origin of the name “Shirahama,” which means “white beach.”
